Health and safety challenges found within the organization often exist due to knowledge gaps and lack of systems. Working in a bottom-up approach, the worker efforts and knowledge must be considered first to change the cultural trajectory of an organization. Similarly, the initiatives must be supported by management to change.
His belief in improving culture is deeply rooted in safety as everyone’s responsibility and initiating safety through early designs/phases. The idea of internal responsibility systems (IRS) is based on the premise of everyone working together to prevent/avoid/abate hazards before it manifest itself into an accident. This is most effective when health safety management systems are deeply embedded in the company’s core.
